A baby’s birth is always is a special occasion. It always brings out the best in all the family members. Old disputes and fights are forgotten and people get together. However, it is also a very sensitive and delicate occasion. It is very important to take care of the newborn’s health properly.

Remember, the infant is very sensitive and vulnerable to risks that adults can manage without any difficulty. Even a few drops of water on the head of the child, is sufficient to lead to a full blown pneumonia. In such a scenario, you have to be extremely careful and vigilant.

It is advisable to establish ground rules to protect the child’s health. Make it a point to enforce these rules without any exceptions whatsoever. Have your parents stay over just for the sake of enforcing these rules. Set the time during which visitors can meet the baby.

Do not treat the baby like a pet dog which can be touched, fondled and lifted by all and sundry. For the initial few months, make it a point to let others touch the baby only after they have washed their hands and feet. You can encourage your guests to use your washing area but make sure that nobody touches the baby without adequate precautions.

Try to cut down on the presence of chemicals in and around the baby. The child is very sensitive to artificial substances. From mother’s milk to the choice of toys – try to keep everything natural to the maximum extent possible.

Finally, try to be financially prepared for emergencies. Make it a point to opt for health insurance and pay your premium on time. This will help you access emergency medical facilities without any worry about the financial aspect of treatment. Taking care of the child’s health is easy provided you take necessary precautions in advance.

Role Of Breast Milk In Preventing Illnesses

Breast feeding is an important method of preventing pediatric illnesses. There are many countries where the practice of breast feeding a child is being discontinued. There are mothers who are very busy with their work. This has caused them to try to avoid breast feeding.

There are various disadvantages of a person not breast feeding the child. Pediatric illnesses are very common in children who have not been breast fed properly when they were babies. The main reason for this to occur is because the breast milk has various nutrients that are very helpful for the child. It also helps to increase the immunity of the child. When this milk has not been available to the child, there is a very high risk of the child suffering from various kinds of illnesses.

There have been various studies that have been conducted in a Pediatric population that has given a result that the children who were breast fed when they were babies have a very low incidence of diarrhea when compared to the children who were not breast fed. These children who were not breast fed were not only susceptible to the illnesses like diarrhea, but they were also at risk of various infections that could possibly be due to the lower immunity power that they had.

The importance of the breast feeding to prevent pediatric illnesses have been highlighted many times, but since many women are working these days, they do not have the time to breast feed the babies each day. It should at least be ensured that the women should follow the policy of exclusive breast feeding for at least a few months till the child becomes stronger. This will not only keep the child healthy, but will also give happiness to the mother that she has been able to play a part in preventing illnesses in the child.

Colic and the symptoms that are seen in a child

The Pediatric wards in any hospital could be filled with children crying. Similarly, children at home may also cry at times. When the abnormal cry is heard from a baby, then chances are that the child may be suffering from colic. This is a condition in which the child may feel full and the probable cause is the stomach pain. This condition is called as colic.

Colic is a common problem in the Pediatric age group. The actual causes of colic pain have not been identified, though there are many theories that tell about the possible causes. One of the causes that is said to cause the condition is the overfeeding of the child by the mother.

There are various signs that are associated with colic in a child. One of the main aspects that is said to help identify if the child is suffering from colic is by noticing if the child is crying immediately after a feed. The child may also cry with a high pitched voice that is very different from the usual cries of the baby. When the baby cries in this fashion, the baby may also have a belly that is distended.

Colic is a common pediatric condition and there are no appropriate treatment methods. There are only methods that will help in preventing the various problems of the child. This is by avoiding certain foods that are commonly seen to cause the colic pain in the Pediatric age group.
